Someone of our reader asks us for the comparison between some open source Content Management Systems. Every Web designer, developer, blogger has their own respective opinion on the different CMS available as a open a open source like WordPress, Drupal and Joomla. So we brought an article to make our opinion on this CMS war.
So the question is who is the king of open source Content Management System (CMS) in different aspects : WordPress or Drupal or Joomla ? ? ?
You will get your answer or at lease you can clearly make your decision while choosing an Open source CMS for your next project. While doing some research for this article we found out a really interesting and creative info-graphics by Devious Media which will provide a better descriptive view.

This is abit outdated numbers. But it shows a pretty good comparison of the three.
Joomla has really been taking off during 2011. The latest version 2.5 now features all the things that made Drupal som popular 2009/2010.
With that said a OOP (Object Oriented Programming) model with its strong MVC (Model View Controller) design pattern really makes it a great choice for finding developers and good designers. While it does not come with a preinstalled CCK (Content Creation Kit) there are several good ones there (K2, Jeblod and ZOO)…
WordPress is great for smaller sized websites. It does though require aaaalot of time to code snippets for large fully feature rich websites though.
Drupal is great for its flexibel approach for solving advanced tasks. Its CCK approach makes it grat. However a great design wizard with excellent HTML5/, CSS and graphics skills can’t get very far (as it can with Joomla) with Drupal.

Joomla is on high right now with its new version 2.5 which is having really nice features as compare to its previous versions.
And it is gaining popularity due to some good inbuilt plugins.
But, in the end there are many points on which, which CMS is to be used, is depend.

Well, wordpress really shouldn’t be used as a CMS in my opinion. It’s really just not designed for it. It does however do what it was designed for very well, which is run blogs. I’m not saying it can’t be used for more, but it takes a bit of tweaking and hacking to do other things properly. Obviously, people do those kinds of modifications. The reason it’s more popular, or at least one of them, is that most people really don’t need a full blown CMS. For most people, it really is the best choice. I use it personally and love it. I would like to change a few things about it, but that’s really not what this comment is about. Also, major revisions is really a useless statistic.
It’s easy to guess it’s WordPress (by far). Joomla is second to WordPress, and Drupal is always third.
However, let’s not forget that Drupal is used by very important organizations/companies, and that’s what makes Drupal more interesting than the other two (I have no idea why large companies opt for Drupal).
Yes, in the end it depends on our requirements, needs and what kind of an application we want to develope. For blog, ofcourse WP is the best and for other (Company websites and sometimes Forums) Joomla and Drupal.
It makes me laugh a little every time I hear someone say WP shouldn’t be used as a CMS. Oh well, what other designers don’t know is better for me I guess
, but I digress. The fact is, I’ve used WP and Drupal, and have chosen WP exclusively for the past 3 years. The power of WP is in the fact that so many more people use it, tweak it, and manipulate it. This means, more options and quicker builds (borrowing code). On top of everything, the Dashboard is simply the most user friendly for people who know nothing about code – which means its the perfect selection for almost any-sized website where the end user can’t afford to hire a full-time webmaster (the vast majority of companies in America).
There is a reason why WP is king right now, and continuing to gain speed
